Welcome to the Anthology of David A.

Thanks for visiting!  Please note -- this is a work in progress and is long overdue. Did you ever say to yourself: "You know, I should really put all this stuff down in one place." I'm often asked where can I get a recording of your arrangement of "Be Still My Soul" or "The Battle Hymn" or other original pieces of music.  Thus, this website.

In November of 2025, I was diagnosed with ALS -- and given the potential severity of the disease --  a sudden sense of urgency welled-up in me to gather the music from the many projects I have produced, performed or otherwise participated in over the last 64 years. Feel free to scroll down to the right side of the page for the latest uploads to the collection. 

I hope you find the music and other works to be just what your spirit needs and blesses you as much as I have been blessed by sharing it.

A  Brief History

It all started back when I was 4 years old. My older sister, Sue, began taking piano lessons. She was seven. The funny thing was we had no piano at the house. She would practice at a little church where we grew up in Pine Hill, NJ. Well, she would play her lessons, and I could replicate it note for note.  Obviously it was nothing I did, the music just came out of me. I would later realize I was gifted with "perfect pitch" and could instantly hear the notes and chords because I would actually see the piano notes in my head.

The Classical Road

It didn't take long before I was whisked away to train classically and understand theory, harmony, composition and piano technique. But to this day, I have strongly relied on my natural abilities to hear / see those notes. As I was learning the classical sonatas and concertos, my teacher would not allow me to hear the song. I had to rely on reading the notes on the page. What fun is that? Although I must admit those early years of classical training were the building blocks of  learning chords,  progressions and reading charts.

The Jesus Encounter & Early Days

In 1969, the night before Easter, I accepted Christ as my Lord and Savior. At age 11, I was soon found playing the piano for Church services and the Youth Group at Erial Community Church. A few years later, our family attended Cedarbrook Bible Church which is where I spent most of my teenage years. There I was involved with the Youth Group, again playing piano for church services, and also became the pianists for my first "gospel" group known as The Pheros. It consisted of four members of the Phero family, (Nelson, Gary, Bruce & Beth) my father (Al) and myself. It was there I learned how to assign harmony parts, and create gospel arrangements  for many of the hymns and "contemporary" songs of the day.
Word of Life

The Word of Life clubs were prevalent in the Northeast in that day. In 1974, I entered their music competition in two categories: Instrumental Solo and Vocal Group (along with my sisters Debbie and Alice) We would compete locally, than regionally, and if you made it, nationally, at Word of Life island in Schroon Lake NY. I won the national "Instrumental Solo" for my rendition of The Battle Hymn of the Republic, and along with my sisters, took the national title in the Vocal Group competition. After this, many opportunities presented themselves to me including a full scholarship to Liberty University, acceptance to the Temple University College of Music and a scholarship to Rowan (Glassboro) State College of NJ. However, after a short year at Temple, my career took a major turn.
